War and Conflict: Russia Doubles Battalions On Ukraine Border to Over 20,000 Troops (Video)

It has been reported that Russia has nearly doubled the number of its battalions near the Ukrainian border, as reported by Western officials on Monday, and could respond to the Kiev government’s gains there by launching a cross-border incursion with little or no warning.

During the past several weeks, Russia has actually built up 17 battalions — totaling 19,000 to 21,000 troops, according to one Western estimate — into a battle-ready force of infantry, armor, artillery and air defense just a few miles of the border.

Plus, it has vastly expanded its firepower, ever increasing the number of advanced surface-to-air missile units to 14 from eight, and deploying more than 30 artillery batteries, according to the officials.

The technology giant Google, has just developed state of the art software which proactively scours hundreds of millions of email accounts for images of child abuse and other criminal activity.

This breakthrough is an evasion of privacy but it also means paedophiles around the world will no longer be able to store and send vile images via email without the risk of their crimes becoming known to government authorities.

These details of this software just emerged after a 41-year-old convicted sex offender was arrested in Texas for possession of child abuse images.

Law Enforcement in the United States revealed that Google’s sophisticated search system had identified suspect material in an email sent by a man in Houston. Tracking all your online correspondence is the new normal. Every thing you send via email is now scanned and tracked. Does this make you feel more secure?

Child protection experts were automatically tipped off and were then able to alert the police, who swooped after requesting the user’s personal information from Google, which Google Gladly shared with them.

 It is hoped this software will play a significant role in the ongoing fight against paedophiles who believe they can use the Internet to operate in the shadows and avoid detection.

Google, which has sometimes faced criticism for not doing enough to tackle paedophilia online, has been developing highly specialised software for a number of years.

In 2008 it rolled out new technology that helped the authorities trace those who were using its search engine to look for illegal images.

But while the company refused to comment on this latest case, the arrest in Texas confirms that the software is now being applied to scan the Google’s hugely popular email service.

Google’s Gmail is the world’s largest free web-based email service with more than 425 million users worldwide.

It is understood that the software works by comparing images held in users’ accounts against a vast database of child abuse images which have been collated by child protection agencies around the world.

Each one of the images is given a unique fingerprint, known as a hash, which is then used to compare with those held in the database.

The system operates automatically and nobody working for Google is able to see any of the images being examined.

If a match with one of the images on the database is found a red flag is raised and one of the child protection agencies such as the UK’s Internet Watch Foundation or the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children in the US is alerted.

Trained specialists at the organisations then examine the image and decide whether to alert the police.
While the technology will be seen as a huge boost to the fight against child abuse and exploitation, the ability of Google to look into people’s personal email accounts has raised questions for privacy campaigners.

Earlier in the year Google confirmed that email accounts were being scanned for content to provide "personally relevant" adverts to users.

Last month the National Crime Agency (NCA) announced that more than 600 suspected paedophiles including doctors, teachers and care workers had been arrested in a major crackdown on the trade in images of abuse.

While the NCA refused to discuss tactics it is thought experts had made a breakthrough in cracking the so-called ‘dark web’, a part of the Internet which has been notoriously difficult to monitor and police.

Ebola: Commercial Plane En Route to Liberia To Bring Ebola Infected Americans Back to Georgia (Latest Video Reports)

It is being reported that a U.S.-contracted medical charter flight left Cartersville, Georgia, Thursday, yesterday, to evacuate two American charity workers in Liberia infected with Ebola hemorrhagic fever. A CNN crew saw the airplane, a long-range business jet, depart shortly after 5 p.m. ET. The plane matched the description provided by the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

It has not been disclosed when the two Americans — identified as Dr. Kent Brantly and Nancy Writebol — would arrive in the United States, or where the plane would land.

At least one of the two will be taken to a hospital at Emory University, near the headquarters of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, hospital officials told CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta.

Brantly and Writebol are described in stable but grave condition, with both reportedly taking a turn for the worse overnight, according to statements released Thursday by the faith-based charity Samaritan’s Purse.

Experimental serum:

The news follows reports that an experimental serum was administered to Writebol. Only one dose of the serum was available, and Brantly asked that it be given to his colleague, said Franklin Graham, president of Samaritan’s Purse.

With word of the experimental serum, there were more questions than answers: What is it? Why was there only one dose? And why was it only made available to the American charity workers?

Samaritan’s Purse said it did not have any additional detail about the serum.

There is no known cure or vaccine for Ebola, which the World Health Organization says is believed to have infected 1,323 people in the West African nations of Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria between March and July 27.

Of those suspected cases, it is believed to have been fatal in at least 729 cases, according to the health organization.

It is believed to be the worst Ebola outbreak in history, and even in a best-case scenario, it could take three to six months to stem the epidemic in West Africa, Dr. Thomas Frieden, director of the CDC, told reporters on Thursday.

The outbreak also prompted the CDC to issue a warning against all “nonessential” travel to the countries coping with an outbreak, Frieden said.

Writebol gets ‘experimental serum’

Both Brantly, a 33-year-old who last lived in Texas, and Writebol were caring for Ebola patients in Liberia, both affiliated with Samaritan’s Purse.

Meanwhile, Brantly received a unit of blood from a 14-year-old boy who survived Ebola, the statement said. Brantly had treated the teen, it said.

It was not immediately clear what doctors hoped the blood transfusion would do for Brantly.

While blood transfusions have been tried before, Frieden told reporters no one really knows why some people survive and some don’t.

Meanwhile, Writebol’s husband, David, who is with the same mission as his wife, is near her, said their son Jeremy, who spoke with CNN’s Chris Cuomo from the United States.

But she is isolated from him, and he has to wear head-to-toe protective clothing similar to a hazmat suit so that he does not contract a disease that starts out with similar symptoms as a strong flu but can end in internal bleeding and death.

“Mom continues in stable condition but it’s very serious, and she’s still fighting,” her son said. “She’s weak, but she’s working through it.”

Liberian Information Minister Lewis Brown said his country could ill afford to lose health care workers like Writebol and Brantly.

“We join the families in prayers that they can come through this and become … shining examples that, if care is taken, one can come out of this.”

Another physician in West Africa was not so fortunate; Dr. Sheik Humarr Khan fell ill early last week while overseeing Ebola treatment at a Sierra Leone hospital and died days later.

Point Blank: Border Patrol Agent Holds Loaded Gun To Boy Scouts Head, Troop Leader Says (Video)

A Boy Scout troop from central Iowa just returned from a three week trip they will not soon forget.

10 days into their trip, an innocent action by one of the nearly two dozen Boy Scouts at the Canadian border into Alaska caused a border patrol agent to pull his loaded weapon and pointed it point blank at the boy’s head.

Boy Scout Troop 111 Leader Jim Fox spelled out what happened to him and the Mid-Iowa Boy Scout Troop 111 as four van-loads of Scouts and adult volunteers tried to drive from Canada into Alaska.

Fox said one of the Scouts took a picture of a border official, which spurred agents to detain everyone in that van and search them and their belongings.

“The agent immediately confiscated his camera, informed him he would be arrested, fined possibly $10,000 and 10 years in prison,” Fox said.

Fox said he was told it is a federal offense to take a picture of a federal agent.

Not wanting things to escalate, Fox said he did not complain.

Another of the Scouts was taking luggage from the top of a van to be searched when something startling happened.

“He hears a snap of a holster, turns around, and here’s this agent, both hands on a loaded pistol, pointing at the young man’s head,” Fox explained.

Fox said that had them all in fear.

Ultimately no one was hurt or arrested, and after about four hours they were allowed to continue their trip into Alaska.

When he thinks about what happened to them and the fact there are people streaming across the southern border, Fox is outraged.

Charles Vonderheid with the Mid-Iowa Council Boy Scouts of America said Troop 11 learned a valuable lesson.

“We want to make sure they follow the rules. A Scout is a good citizen. It would be a great lesson in civics for that young man and that troop,” he said.

The Scouts arrived home late Sunday from their 23-day trip.

  

There were 17 other Scouts and three other volunteers on the trip. As of now KCCI has not been able to make contact with any of the Scouts.

Frankly the statement made by Charles Vonderheid are troubling. Since when is having a gun pointed at your head a good lesson in civics? This border patrol agent should be fired, or suspended at the very least. Police state USA!

If our border patrol used this kind of force on our southern borders, we wouldn’t have a border crisis right now.
